Weight Loss

Given once weekly via subcutaneous injection, studies have shown that Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are both extremely effective in weight loss. We are thrilled to have found a safe and more affordable way to make these weight loss injections accessible to our patients!

Semaglutide

How it works: Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It mimics the GLP-1 hormone that is released in the gastrointestinal tract in response to eating. One role of GLP-1 is to prompt the body to produce more insulin, which reduces blood glucose (sugar). GLP-1 in higher amounts also interacts with the parts of the brain that reduce appetite and signal a feeling of fullness.

Tirzepatide

How it works: Tirzepatide is a dual agonist that binds to both glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptors. They help with weight loss in several ways: by slowing gastric emptying which helps you feel full longer, targeting the area of the brain that controls appetite which reduces hunger, and triggering insulin production which helps regulate blood sugar.

Common side effects of both drugs include constipation or diarrhea, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, headaches, abdominal pain, fatigue, and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).

Tirzepatide is thought to be the superior medication (which is reflected in its market price), both in efficacy and risk of side effects. While both medications are quite effective in reducing fat in the body, Semaglutide has also been shown to decrease muscle mass as well. However, it is imperative to know that each patient is different and there are certainly cases where Semaglutide is preferred. Please let us know if you have any questions or need help deciding which medication might be best for you.

You should not take either of these medications if you have a history of Medullary Thyroid Cancer, Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN-a condition that causes tumors in more than one gland in the body), pancreatitis or gallbladder disease.
